What is a Community Interest Group?

A Community Interest Group (CIG) is defined as any group of like-minded Association members with a shared interest in a specific subject matter or specific classification of institution related to practice management.
There are two categories of official communities:
  1. Specific Interest Groups based on specific shared interest
    • For example: Large Group Executive Forum, Coders
  2. Institutional Interest Groups for members in specific types of institutions
    • For example: Academic, Multi-specialty
The two AOA recognized communities that are currently in operation are:
  1. Large Group Executive Forum
  2. Academic Forum

The Academic Forum is open to all academic practices and does not require an application to join.

The Large Group Executive Forum (LGEF) is a community of the AOA composed of executives from practices with a minimum of 10 providers and or executives with equity interest in the practice. The LGEF seeks affirmation and affiliation from the AOA to foster the vision and mission of the AOA while providing executive-level exchange of business of medicine ideas, challenges and opportunities unique to the large group environment.

Mid Size Groups are loosely defined as those with 5-14 physicians, but this group is open to anyone that wants to join! Our desire is to create ongoing “community conversations” within our membership. We anticipate opportunities for networking around best practices, discussions about specific areas of interest as well as providing educational tidbits to help us with our day to day practice management responsibilities.
