Introduction & Program Rationale

Welcome to The Link, the AOA-supported Primary Care Referral Program, intended to help increase awareness among primary care physicians on the main causes of hearing loss and the link between common comorbid conditions. Educating primary care physicians (PCPs) on these associations can increase patient access to quality hearing healthcare and, as a result, lead to more referrals to your practice and additional revenue opportunities.

The Link was created in an easy-to-implement format with step-by-step instructions. These proven strategies will help you develop new relationships with PCPs in your area. Because approximately 15% of all hearing aid sales in the U.S. are the result of a physician referral to a hearing healthcare provider, it makes sense that hearing healthcare specialists reach out to the physicians in the medical community.

The goal of this program is to increase awareness of conditions impacting hearing, thus helping to drive a consistent flow of referrals from primary care physicians.

PCPs are the gatekeepers between their patients and the hearing healthcare they need; there is much more education about hearing loss that needs to be done. PCPs might need to be educated about hearing loss and the fact that ENTs and audiologists are the members of the medical community who might best assist them in a partnership to provide comprehensive care.

With an increase in referrals from PCPs, you will be able to provide benefits to their patients and ultimately grow your practice.
